How can we be free?

This week's question for God is about freedom. Freedom from rules, other people's opinions, expectations, self-doubt, just to name a few.

I sat with Jesus this morning and asked Him about this very thing. What does it look like to be free? The only answer I got was: Be still and Know.

Is it that simple?

It's that simple.

If you are like me, Movement is life. Forward motion is air.

Being still is like sinking. It is suffocating.

Yet, it is a command from the Almighty.

In this world filled with hurry, the only way to truly be free is to be still.

This week's post is short and to the point, because God's answer to the question is that pointed. It may not be easy, but it is simple. Will you join me?

Be still and know that I am God. - Psalm 46:10

  1. Literally, be still. Maybe 5 minutes to start. Allow yourself to take in the moment, experience your thoughts, feelings, the things and people around you as your body stays still. Laying down in the "corpse pose" is a great way to do this.
  2. Shut out the noise. Often when we are physically still, there is noise all around. Turn off music, TVs, kids (this one means you might have to go into a closet) and go before the Lord.
  3. Meditate. This may not be a physical or alone in silence type. Take a short pause and remember who God is. Thank Him for His presence.
